Compassion at work in Uganda.
Showing Compassion in Uganda
Uganda is nicknamed “The Pearl of Africa” – a phrase attributed to Winston Churchill – to convey its beautiful landscapes and natural resources. Uganda has one of the youngest and most rapidly growing populations in the world, 47% of the population is under 15 years of age. Agriculture is one of the most important sectors of the Ugandan economy. Top agricultural products in Uganda include coffee, tea, cotton and flowers, which also are some of the country’s top exports. Other important industries include sugar processing and cement and steel production. Compassion has been partnering with local churches in Uganda since 1980. Currently more than 142,000 children are benefiting from Compassion’s whole-child development program.
