Your Gift to Sri Lankan Moms and Babies

Mothers receive nutritious food support from the center after learning about healthy eating and getting good nutrition while pregnant or breastfeeding.
Emmanuel Baptist Church,
Your generosity is helping babies survive the crucial first 12 months of life, when they are most vulnerable to illness and hunger. At a Compassion local partner in Sri Lanka, your support is currently helping 15 mothers and babies start down a road that leads to a better life. Mothers are learning useful new skills, building supportive friendships with other mothers and learning that God’s unconditional love can transform their lives. Thanks to you, they are being empowered to create an environment where their beautiful babies will thrive. We hope you are encouraged by this report that represents recent activities from the Survival program and pictures of moms and babies receiving real and lasting help.

A Heart Full of Gratitude

Thangeswary holds her sleeping daughter.
Dear Friends,
I’m Thangeswary and I joined the Survival program when I was 2 months pregnant. I am writing to you to express my deepest gratitude for the life-changing support and care that you have provided through the most difficult time of my life. When I found myself in a place of hardship, struggling with poverty and uncertainty, I never imagined that I would receive the kind of help that has brought me so much hope.
The Survival program has been a true blessing and helped me overcome so many of my fears around pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood. The food, resources and emotional support I received allowed me to focus on my health and the well-being of my unborn child. Without your assistance, I truly don’t know how I would have made it through such challenging times. Now, as I hold my beautiful daughter in my arms, I realize that this program’s care has not only helped me survive but it’s given my little one the best possible start in life. Thanks to you, I can look toward the future with a heart full of gratitude.
Blessings,
Thangeswary

Recent Survival Activities
Your gift enables this local partner to serve vulnerable mothers and babies in the community. At each monthly meeting, caregivers gather to learn about various topics presented by educated leaders. Some of these topics include breastfeeding education and benefits, income-generation activities, disease prevention and treatment and spiritual encouragement. Pictured below are two recent workshops that took place at this center.
Here, a local health official teaches the caregivers about how to prevent illness and disease by consuming a healthy diet. Feeding their children nutrient-dense foods will promote steady growth, prevent chronic illnesses such as malnutrition, and help fight food insecurity.
During this class, mothers learn about breastfeeding and childcare, both of which are essential aspects of infant care that contribute to their baby’s overall well-being and development.
The Newest Sponsorship Participants
Thanks to your support, four babies have recently celebrated their first birthdays and transitioned to continued holistic care through Compassion’s Sponsorship Program. They will continue their growth with guidance from center staff and a loving sponsor.

Survival Program Spotlight: Home Visits
Compassion Survival Specialists play a vital role in reinforcing program content so participants can begin integrating their new skills and learnings into their daily lives. Through monthly visits, Survival Specialists offer emotional and social support for both the mother and the child. The one-on-one time allows for more individualized attention and provides an extra measure of personal connection and accountability. During these visits, the specialists check the home environment for any risks or dangers. They offer additional training in any areas the mothers may need, from breastfeeding best practices to parenting skill review.
Pictured below are two recent home visits from Survival Specialists from this center.

A specialist conducts a home visit and teaches a new mom about how to prevent dengue fever by eliminating standing water near living spaces.

Proper nutrition is crucial for pregnant mothers and young infants. As a part of this home visit, the specialist explains how to find and eat health-promoting foods.
